'SHAKTI: The Divine Energy and Power': Final Showcase

Kalakunj successfully completed the final showcase of SHAKTI: The Divine Energy and Power project on Saturday 13 November 2021 at 3sixty, University of Reading supported by an Arts Council England grant. The event was well attended by 150 attendees and 60 student performers. The showcase included scintillating dance presentations in the three Indian classical dance styles, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, and Kuchipudi. The student performers were mentored by three leading dance practitioners, Divya Kasturi (Bharatanatyam), Arunima Kumar (Kuchipudi) and Dr Parvati Rajamani (Odissi) and presented three spectacular dance pieces which they had learnt in separate 2 days intensive workshops held between September and November 2021. The artists themselves explored the concept of SHAKTI by showcasing six different dance pieces in their unique styles. The entire event was ably supported by a group of Kalakunj volunteers and created a lasting impact on those who were fortunate to attend the showcase despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
